B and A is an abbreviation for B.C and A.D, which abbreviate Before Christ and Anno Domini.

Motivation

• B and A are shorter than B.C. and A.C.
• B and A are easily mnemonically related to Before and After the point of reference, Christ
• B and A make more explicit the sequential nature of the system
• B and A put more emphasis in the negative and positive nature of years around the reference
